All the Details to Pete Oen’s Successful Training Program

 

Pete Oen’s clinic showcases great exercises he uses with all his horses off and on the pattern and from colts to finished horses. He shares a lot of what he is doing on a regular basis from feeding routing, barn routine, and exercises to have horses who are successful, confident and most importantly enjoy running barrels.

 

Video 1: What his Program looks like. ( 5:17)
Pete gives us an overview of what his training program looks like and he talks about all the important parts that makes his program successful. From having a great feeding program, to making sure horses are ready for the stress of the big shows, and everything in between, he does everything in his power to have happy and healthy horses.

 

Video 2: Before Working 3 years old on the Barrel Pattern. (3:29)
In this video, he explains what he goes through with his 3 years old colts before he shows them the pattern and why he takes his time with them at the beginning when working barrels. He also shares what a week of training for these younger horses looks like.

He demonstrates the basic skills he works on with his 3 years old colts on a regular basis. He shows how he wants them to give to pressure and the exercises he uses to achieve that. He also talks about how important it is to listen to your horse and not only demand them to work all the time.

Here is a demonstration of the pattern work he does with his young horses. He wants them to keep moving forward through the turns and he shares his way of over finishing the first barrel to set them up better for the second and third that contributes to the great success he has. He shows us what pocket size and shape he likes to have around the barrels.
